Get ready for some major shake-ups with the AMEX Platinum Charge! Starting from 2026, American Express is making some bold moves that will change the game for cardholders.
The Big Picture: AMEX Platinum Charge's Makeover
American Express has unveiled some significant changes to the AMEX Platinum Charge, effective from 1 January 2026. These changes include the removal of certain statement credits and the introduction of new benefits. But here's where it gets controversial: some cardholders might not be too happy about these adjustments.
Say Goodbye to Some Statement Credits
If you were a fan of the Local Dining, Entertainment, and Fashion credits, totaling S$554 or 40% of the existing S$1,354, prepare for a change. American Express is scrapping these credits, which means you'll no longer be able to enjoy those perks. However, they're replacing them with something new.
Introducing Table for Two and Private Platinum Spaces
Say hello to Table for Two, a new benefit that offers a free meal for two people, six times a year, at a list of participating restaurants. It's like having a personal dining experience, courtesy of AMEX. And this is the part most people miss: there's also a new concept called Private Platinum Spaces, which aims to create exclusive member-only spaces for comfort and memorable experiences.
Changes to Existing Credits
The Overseas Dining credit is getting an upgrade, too. Instead of receiving a S$100 credit every six months, it will now be a single S$200 annual credit. This means you can use it all at once, without having to plan multiple overseas trips. However, there's a catch - you'll have to wait until March 2026 to start using this new credit.
The Lifestyle credit is also getting a revamp. It will now be known as the Platinum Wine credit, which can only be spent on wines. This might be a bummer for teetotalers, but for wine enthusiasts, it's a dream come true!
The Bottom Line
Overall, these changes to the AMEX Platinum Charge statement credits will result in a total loss of S$554. Existing credits can be used until the end of 2025. There will also be adjustments to the remaining credits, with some positive changes like the consolidation of the Overseas Dining credit.
Table for Two sounds like an exciting new benefit, but we'll have to wait and see how easy it is to book those meals. And with the introduction of Private Platinum Spaces, American Express is aiming to create exclusive experiences for its members.
