In the summer of 2025, Maize and Golightly lived in the same condo building in Coach Hill. Their relationship had been strained by a neighbor dispute, with Golightly claiming she felt unsafe. The prosecutor, Petter Hurich, highlighted the unusual nature of the case, stating, "It's a very unusual set of circumstances to have a passageway between these two residences." Hurich argued that the only logical explanation was someone with access to both residences.
