The PGA TOUR Q-School presented by Korn Ferry is an intense battle for 2026 TOUR cards, and one veteran golfer, Camilo Villegas, is right in the thick of it. A true test of resilience and skill, this event showcases the best of the best, fighting for their place in the sun.
Villegas, a five-time PGA TOUR winner, is no stranger to the competitive arena. At 43 years old, he's one of the more seasoned players at this week's Q-School. With only three Q-School appearances in his long career, Villegas finds himself in a familiar yet challenging position.
"Competition is in our blood. We thrive on the grind and the challenges it presents. That's why we're here," Villegas shared after his impressive bogey-free round on Friday. He continued, "As we age, the TOUR becomes a tougher arena, especially in your 40s. I've been fortunate to compete and even win in this decade, but at the end of the day, past achievements don't guarantee future success."
Finishing 155th in the FedExCup Fall standings, Villegas decided to take on the Final Stage of Q-School to regain his full TOUR status for the 2026 season. It was a no-brainer for him, as he aims to secure one of the top five spots, which would grant him full exemption for every full-field event next season.
"This year has been a struggle, making only 13 cuts out of 27. Missing the FedExCup Playoffs was a wake-up call. I'm here to prove myself again," Villegas said. His last victory on TOUR was an emotional one, a win at the Bermuda Butterfield Championship, 22 months after losing his daughter. It ended a nine-year drought and gave him status through the 2025 season.
"I love the game and the challenge it presents. When you're playing well, it's a joy, but when you're not, it can be a frustrating journey. I'm here to compete and show that I still belong," Villegas added.
But here's where it gets controversial... Villegas is not the only one with something to prove. Let's take a look at some of the other contenders:
- Michael Feagles (T1): Known for his 59 on the Korn Ferry Tour in 2023, Feagles aims to secure regular starts on the PGA TOUR.
- Trevor Cone (T1): After a miserable season, Cone is looking to regain his status and turn things around.
- A.J. Ewart (T1): A hole-in-one on Friday puts Ewart in a position to leapfrog the Korn Ferry Tour and head straight to the main circuit.
- John Pak (T1): A former collegiate standout, Pak is looking to improve on his rookie season on the PGA TOUR.
- Kota Kaneko (T1): The top finisher on the Japan Golf Tour this year, Kaneko seeks to make a mark on the PGA TOUR.
And this is the part most people miss... the Korn Ferry Tour bubble. The next 40 finishers will earn membership for the 2026 season, with the top 25 subject to the third reshuffle and the remaining finishers to the second reshuffle. Some notable names in this group include Adam Svensson, Luke Gutschewski, Doc Redman, Ryo Ishikawa, and Spencer Levin, all fighting for their place on the tour.
As for Villegas, he's just one shot off the top five, a position that could grant him fully exempt status. But it's a tight race, and with so much on the line, anything can happen. Who will secure their spot on the 2026 PGA TOUR? Only time will tell.
