In a thrilling display of swimming prowess, the junior squad emerged victorious, led by the exceptional performance of Ilya Kharun. But here's where it gets controversial: the seniors initially held a substantial lead, thanks to the stellar performances of Andy Dobrzanski, Tommy Palmer, and Jonny Kulow. However, Kharun's lightning-fast anchor leg of 41.77 seconds proved to be the turning point, as he surged past the seniors, with Ryan King, to claim the win for the juniors in a time of 2:55.67. The seniors, just six one-hundredths of a second behind, finished in 2:55.73.
The race was a testament to the competitive spirit of the ASU swimmers, with Kharun also contributing to the team's success in other events. He led off the 200 medley relay in 20.89, a personal best for the 50 back, and claimed the 500 free title in 4:21.16, narrowly missing his personal best of 4:20.55. The Sun Devil men's team has shown their mettle this season, currently ranking second in the 400 free relay with a time of 2:46.11 from the CSCAA Dual Meet Tournament in November.
