High Winds and Blowing Dust Close I-70 in Kansas
Due to high winds and blowing dust, Interstate 70 has been closed in both directions between Colby and Oakley, extending to WaKeeney. The eastbound lanes remain closed as of 5 p.m., while the westbound lanes have been opened from WaKeeney to the Colorado state line, and the eastbound lanes are open at Oakley.
Vehicle crashes have also contributed to the closure, further reducing visibility and safety on the road.
High Wind and Red Flag Warnings are in effect across much of northwest Kansas through the afternoon, prompting officials to advise motorists to consider delaying non-essential travel if possible.
