They raised approximately RM120,000 through personal contributions and sponsorships, every cent of which was invested in training, gear, and travel.
In Hong Kong, their discipline paid off. They triumphed over Singapore (4-0), drew with Hong Kong (1-1), and overwhelmed Bangladesh (8-0). The final match saw them deliver a flawless performance, defeating Japan (3-0) to become the Asian champions in the Over-50 category for the first time. Maninderjit emphasized that hockey doesn't end with retirement from the national team, but with proper structure, one can compete at a high level for life.
But here's where it gets controversial... The victory is a testament to the structure provided by SAS, which gave veteran hockey consistency, direction, and legitimacy. This win has paved their way to the 2026 World Masters Hockey World Cup in Rotterdam, where they anticipate an expanded pool of former international players.

The Over-60s' success story is one of endurance, camaraderie, and patience. Team manager Nicholas Das noted the dedication of these players, who balanced training with family and work commitments. Their preparation began after the 2024 Masters World Cup in New Zealand.
Their training involved honest conditioning, tactical cycles, mobility training, and recovery routines. They trained according to their age and abilities, which proved effective. Led by former national player Surindar Singh, captain Soon Mustafa Karim (a two-time Olympian), and vice-captain Chandrasegar Ramasamy, the Over-60s built a structured, purposeful team. They were guided by experienced coaches, including former national footballer V Kalimuthu, whose methods mirrored elite programs.
Their performance in Hong Kong was nothing short of emphatic. They crushed Singapore (11-0), beat Japan (3-2), controlled Korea (5-3), and saved their best for the final, a dominant 5-0 victory over Hong Kong. Kalimuthu, at 79 years old, emphasized that discipline was key to their success.
