Southern Water has been forced to shut down Church Road in Shanklin due to emergency works. The big question on everyone's mind? How long will it last? Right now, there's no set timeframe for reopening, which is causing concern, especially since it could coincide with another set of roadworks.
And this is where it gets tricky...
Starting Monday, Island Roads will restart its carriageway reconstruction project on Clarence Road, High Street, and St John's Road in Wroxall. These works were paused over the Christmas and New Year period, but now they're back, potentially adding to the traffic chaos.
The closure of Church Road impacts a vital route to Ventnor, blocking through access between Whiteley Bank and Upper Ventnor while the work is ongoing.
As a result of the Church Road closure, Southern Vectis buses are currently rerouting. A spokesperson for the bus company stated that they have no information on how long the closure will last and will provide updates if it affects the Wroxall closure on Monday morning. Passengers who typically use bus stops between Daish's and Chimney Steps will need to make alternative arrangements. If you usually wait at Daish's, you're advised to head to Shanklin Youth Centre to catch Route 3.
Good news for those planning to visit Shanklin Old Village: businesses there remain open as usual.
The County Press has reached out to Southern Water to find out if the works will be completed by Monday.
